Antonin Simunek, M.D., Ph.D., born 1953 in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.
In 1977 he graduated with a degree in Dentistry from the Charles University
in Prague, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Kralove. He works in Department of
Dentistry at the Teaching Hospital in Hradec Kralove. He is an oral and
maxillofacial surgeon. In 1990 he obtained his Ph.D. and in 1996 he became
an associate professor at the Teaching Hospital in Hradec Kralove, where he
still works.
Since 1992, Dr. Simunek has been engaged in dental implantology and is a
pioneer in this field in the Czech Republic. He obtained experience in the
USA, Switzerland, Sweden and Austria. Since 1997 he has been head of the
Centre for Dental Implantology at the Teaching Hospital in Hradec Kralove,
the largest implantological centre in the Czech Republic.
Dr. Simunek is one of the leading implantologists in the Czech Republic. In
the Teaching Hospital and in his private surgery he placed more than 14 000
dental implants. He specializes in the surgical aspects of dental
implantology and he regularly works together with top dental specialists, e.g.
prosthodontists, periodontists, dental hygienists, orthodontists and general
dentists.
Dr. Simunek teaches dental implantology in the Medical Faculty, and engages
in implantological research and in the training of Czech and foreign
implantologists. He has presented 300 implantological lectures at symposia
and conferences both in the Czech Republic and abroad, and has published
more than 200 implantological articles in the Czech and foreign professional
journals. As well, in 2001 Dr. Simunek headed a team that published the
first Czech textbook of implantology (A. Simunek et al.: Dental Implantology,
Nucleus HK, Hradec Kralove 2001, 2nd edition 2008). He is a member of board
of the Implantological Club of the Czech Republic and a member of the
European Association for Osseointegration.
